“You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself
In any direction you choose.
You’re on your own. And you know what you know.
And YOU are the guy who’ll decide where to go.”
Dr Seuss was a genius. He had such incredible insight, and one of my favourite books of all time, one which applies for business, for life, guidance for your beliefs, thoughts, feelings, understanding, experiences and so very much more, is ‘Oh The Places You’ll Go’.
If you’ve not yet read it, I’d highly recommend you do. It won’t take you very long because its actually a childrens book. Well, that was the original intention anyway, but in truth it’s a guide book. A guide to life, a guide to business, a guide to understanding and experiencing. A guide that tells you there will be ups and downs throughout life, (or business), it’s all a great balancing act. Whatever you do you will experience the peaks and the troughs, you just have to push through. Because there is always great stuff just the other side.
Anyway, why am I talking about Dr Seuss?
He does happen to be a hero of mine, however today (March 2nd) is also his birthday.
So to honour this amazing man on his birthday, I’d like to tell you 3 super-fast facts about him:
1) He wrote countless children’s books, despite never having had any of his own.
2) He invented the word NERD, (that alone is definitely a winner).
3) He inspired generations of story tellers to write & children to read for themselves, (Green Eggs and Ham was a book written using 348 words deemed the most important for first-graders to learn in 1954, and came about because his publisher felt children’s books were too boring and challenged him to write a book ‘children wouldn’t be able to put down’).
Happy Birthday Dr Suess!
